Electrical Contractor Licensing in Wisconsin

Electrical Contractors in the State of Wisconsin are required to obtain the proper credentials and licensing in order to install, maintain, repair or participate in the business of electrical contracting.  Licenses and credentials are issued by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.

The process for licensing/credentialing varies, depending on the type of electrical work the contractor plans to perform.  In some cases, contractors are required to have a number of years of work experience or education, and pass a trades credentialing exam.

Reciprocal General Contractor Licensing in Kentucky

The Commonwealth of Kentucky does not hold reciprocal licensing agreements for General Contractors licensed in other states.  This is because licensing is handled at the local-level, rather than the state-level in Kentucky.

Out-of-state contractors who want to work on construction projects in Kentucky must check with the local city, county or municipality to determine what is required.  In most cases, contractors are required to obtain a license or registration from the city.

*General Contractors should always notify the local licensing board if they hold a license in another state.

Electrical Contractors in the Commonwealth of Virginia are required hold a certification card from the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation.  Certifications are issued by the Department’s Board for Contractors.    As part of the certification process, contractors are required to meet the Board’s requirements for education and work experience, and pass a qualifying exam.

The Board offers the following certification classifications to Electrical Contractors:

  • Journeyman Electrical
  • Master Electrical
