Electrical Contractor Licensing in Maine

The State of Maine requires anyone making electrical installations or performing electrical work to be properly licensed.  Licenses are issued by the Department of Professional & Financial Regulation’s Electrician’s Examining Board.

The Board protects the safety and welfare of the public by making sure all Electrical Contractors have the skills, knowledge and competency to perform electrical work.  As part of the licensing process, contractors are required to meet the Boards requirements for work experience and education, and pass a qualifying exam. Reciprocal General Contractor Licensing in Maine

The State of Maine does not have reciprocal licensing agreements with other states for General Contractors.  This is because the licensing of contractors is handled on the local-level rather than the state-level in Maine.

Out-of-State contractors who want to work on construction projects in Maine must check with the local building or planning department in their city, town or county to determine what is required.  Most cities require contractors to (more…)
